Tiger Balm Review and Giveaway

I guess you could say that Tiger Balm has been around since the late 1870s when Aw Chu Kin, a Chinese herbalist, left China and set up a small medicine shop called Eng Aun Tong in Rangoon, where he made and sold a special ointment that was effective in relieving all kinds of aches and pains. When Aw Chu Kin died in 1909, his two sons, Aw Boon Haw (meaning gentle tiger) and Aw Boon Par (meaning gentle leopard), took over his business, which they took to Singapore where they successfully sold their ointment, which they named Tiger Balm, to surrounding countries. With nearly 100 years of proven success in almost 100 countries, Tiger Balm's world renowned ointment has proven to that is works where it hurts by continuing to balance the best of age-old tradition with modern innovations to ensure that no one is constrained from leading a full and active life because of aches, pains, and everyday discomforts. Today, Tiger Balm is customized into a range of formulations and applications to suit your specific needs.

I've had severe neck and shoulder pain for years. I won't bore you with all the details but I've tried both over-the-counter and prescription topical creams and pain medications, muscle relaxers, chiropractic care, physical therapy, and steroid injections with little to no relief, making me feel grateful that I have decent health insurance. When I was contacted by Tiger Balm about reviewing some of their products, my first thought was that I had nothing to lose and everything to gain so I would definitely give it a try. I was sent Tiger Balm Ultra and Tiger Balm Neck & Shoulder Rub for review.
I first tried the Tiger Balm Neck & Shoulder Rub, which can be used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains associated with neck and shoulder pain and the aches caused by work stress, tension, and sitting at a desk for long periods of time, minor muscle strain, bruises, and sprains. It comes in a small, easy to carry tube, making it convenient to put in my purse to take to the office or on the go. It is made with a creamy, water based blend of camphor and menthol so it's scent is very strong and when applied to my neck and shoulders it almost immediately caused a warm sensation to the areas where it was applied. It was very easy to apply. My boyfriend thinks it has a very strong scent as well and he knows every time I put it on. I was very happily surprised though when the Tiger Balm Neck & Shoulder Rub started relieving my pain almost immediately after being applied. It does not feel greasy or sticky. While it's supposed to have a vanishing scent, I felt that it remained very strong for nearly an hour before it started diminishing somewhat. I don't really care how strong of a scent it has though because it works so well. It provided me with adequate pain relief for a few hours and I could move my neck and shoulders without much pain or discomfort.

I next tried the Tiger Balm Ultra, which is an ointment that contains the strongest concentration of Tiger Balm's herbal ingredients to provide penetrating heat to muscles and can be used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains associated with joint and muscle strains, backaches caused by overexertion and even backaches during pregnancy, arthritis in the hands and joints, and stiff muscles. It comes in a small jar that is small enough to fit in my purse to take to the office or on the go. Since my pain is in my neck and shoulders, this is where I applied the Tiger Balm Ultra. Being a balm, it is a bit harder to apply and feels a tad bit sticky. Once applied, I didn't feel a warm sensation immediately, rather I didn't start feeling a warm sensation for for until approximately 3 minutes after application. The warming sensation gradually increased and reached full strength within about 10 minutes of application. It just has a moderately strong scent that no one seemed to notice. It started to provide adequate pain relief within about a minute of application and the pain relief lasted for a few hours, allowing me to move my neck and shoulders without much discomfort.

Overall, I was VERY, VERY, VERY impressed with the Tiger Balm products I tried and can't believe I'm just now trying them for the first time, especially since I checked where Tiger Balm products are sold and my local Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, and CVS Pharmacy carries them. Both the Tiger Balm Neck & Shoulder Rub and the Tiger Balm Ultra provided me with more pain relief than any other method I've tried in the past several years and Tiger Balm products are reasonably priced so there will be no more $40 office calls for me. I also have very sensitive skin and the Tiger Balm products I tried didn't cause any reaction whatsoever. It's nice to finally find a product that can alleviate my symptoms without causing a financial strain. I would recommend Tiger Balm products to anyone experiencing any of the above symptoms.

  5. Woman, you don't even know the pain I have to deal with in my neck and shoulders. I used to be a 36I cup (that's SIX D's) and it did some serious damage to my back. After years of physical therapy I finally had surgery but it doesn't take anything to bring the tension back. I find myself rubbing Vick's in, then jamming the far itself between my back and the back of the chair I'm sitting in. At least weekly, I'd love to try another form of relief. Motrin just doesn't cut it.
