Boiron Winter Health Value Pack Review and Giveaway

I was recently sent for review a Boiron's Cough, Cold, and Flu Medicines Value Pack. Included in the Value Pack was a box of Oscillococcinum, a box of Coldcalm, and a bottle of Chestal.

Oscillococcinum is for flu-like symptoms. It works best when taken at the first sign of flu-like symptoms such as feeling run down, headache, body aches, chills, and fever. There are no side effect such as drowsiness and no drug interactions. It has been shown in clinical studies to help reduce both the duration and the severity of flu-like symptoms. It is safe for everyone 2 years of age and older.

Coldcalm is for cold symptoms. It's multi-ingredient formula naturally treats cold symptoms at each stage of the cold, including sneezing, runny nose, sinus and nasal congestion, and minor sore throat. There are no side effect such as drowsiness and no drug interactions. It is safe for everyone 3 years of age and older.

Chestal is for coughs. It combines safe, natural homeopathic medicines with a natural honey base. It relieves all types of common coughs. It helps loosen phlegm and thin bronchial secretions to make cough more productive. There are no side effects such as drowsiness and no drug interactions. There are no artificial flavors or colors. It is safe for everyone 2 years of age and older.

Homeopathic medicines are therapeutically active micro-doses of mineral, botanical and biological substances. Used to treat many acute health conditions, these medicines are safe, natural, and have no side effects. Boiron is a company that offers more than 800 homeopathic medicines that are approved by the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of United States (HPUS). About 80 of their most popular medicines are readily available in most health food stores and specialized pharmacies. The others can be special ordered by your pharmacist or your health food department specialist and made available to you in usually less than 3 days.

My Take on the Boiron's Cough, Cold, and Flu Medicines Value Pack
The first Boiron product I was able to review was the Chestal (honey) for just a very mild cough that my 11-year-old son had developed . He had carried over a cough one night into the next morning and I decided to give him a dose. After just two doses he no longer had a cough. I thought with the Chestal being honey flavored that it would help it go down easier but he still thought it tasted just as terrible as any other cough syrup. However, I dabbed a bit on my finger to taste it and I thought it had a very good taste compared to other cough syrups.

Several days later I started to develop just a slight sore throat on and off throughout the day. I would usually not think much about it but given that I had a box of Coldcalm at home, I thought I'd put it to the test. Coldcalm tablets are made to dissolve quickly and in my opinion they did just that. They also did not leave a bad aftertaste in my mouth as most dissolvable tablets do. The one thing I didn't like about Coldcalm was that I had to be take two tablets every 15 minutes for the first 2 hours and then every hour afterward if still experiencing symptoms. I found it very hard to remember ever 15 minutes to take two of these pills for 2 hours. It's not rocket science but right in the middle of the day when trying to finish up work, get dinner started, and deal with kids coming home from school, it's almost impossible not to miss a dose because you thought you took it. Also after taking these for about an hour, I dreaded taking yet another dose. However, after a few hours my sore throat had eased somewhat so it was worth taking all those pills because there's nothing good about having a sore throat.

  4. Sure! Last spring semester of 09 I had a really bad cough and cold. I was pregnant with little boy, taking a final on my laptop for one of my online courses and watching Twilight. I ended up coughing and hyperventaliating. I ended up have an asthma attack and had to rush to the ER! I finished my final right when the attack came about! I was so scared since I couldn't breath and felt like a wrestler was strangeling me!

  12. To prevent getting sick I use hand sanitizer and also use the clorox bleach wipes around the bathroom & kitchen. I also bundle up & take my vitamins but I think sometimes you just get sick. :-(

  13. I only have ever had one flu shots & it was the winter when I didn't have health insurance due to not having a job. I tend to sometimes think that those who do get the shots tend to get sick more.

  14. oh gosh, the worst cold/flu experience I ever had was when I lived in Japan...I was teaching English there and got so sick but was so afraid to go see a doctor. I finally ended up going because I just couldn't take it anymore & so weak & dehydrated. By the time I left the doctor's office, I had a credit card type thing that had my prescription on it that i then took to the 'kusuri'(pharmacy) and i had never seen so many pills. I had no idea what they were or how to take them. I finally got someone to explain them & 10 days later I was better but after that I had my family send me a care package with meds so if that was to happen again, I wouldn't have to go through that again. Luckiky I didn't but that was the worst time ever!

  20. Not really a horror story, but when my hubs and I were dating, he got a terrible cold. He had his kids for the weekend and I had to sleep on the floor because we didn't want to shock them by sleeping together. He was so sick, I was afraid to leave the room.. that is why I slept on the floor.

  45. Nin Jiom Pei Pa Koa (ninjiom-hk.cwahi.net) may be another choice. i know alot of people use it, its also non alcoholic, though it's effectiveness is not as good as alcohol based cough medicine, but it's still good to use on not so serious scratchy throat.
