The Heart's Journey Home Book Review
I recently finished The Heart's Journey Home by Jen Stephens. Jen lives in the Nashville, Tennessee area with her husband and two beautiful daughters. She teaches 3rd grade at a Christian school and is very active with the youth in her church. A member of Middle Tennessee Christian Writers, she writes in her “spare” time. The Heart’s Journey Home is her debut novel and was released in January 2010.
In The Heart's Journey Home, Kate finds herself moving from Tennessee back to her home town in Harvest Bay, Ohio along with her young daughter to be closer to her family 3 years after the death of her husband. She has undoubtedly lost her faith and is afraid she will never be able to let go of her husband and find love again. Through the help of her family and friends, both old and new, Kate slowly regains her faith and in turn helps others to open their hearts to God as well. She also finds love again but is caught between loving two different men but through the help of God she is led in the right direction.
This book proves that if you open your heart to God you will always be led in the right direction. Just as the characters in the book, we sometimes face challenges and have difficult decisions to make but if you have faith and trust in God you will be okay.
There were times while reading this book that I teared up and lost my breath. I felt like it was meant for me to read this book (which I actually won from my friends over at Chic Galleria). This would be a great book to give to someone who is in a similar situation as Kate and has lost their way or to someone struggling with starting a relationship with God.
In March of 2011, Jen's second novel in the Harvest Bay Series, The Heart's Lullaby, is scheduled for release. This no doubt will be another great book that I am excited to read.
