I received a 'Good Luck' Customized Chrome Horseshoe from Modern Outfitters. This is an authentic horseshoe once wore by a real horse and then coated with chrome. I customized my horseshoe with the names of myself and my boyfriend hoping that it will bring us both lots of good luck in the coming years because it's always nice to have luck on your side. This is a very wonderful piece with a great patina to it. It is of course very heavy duty with a lot of character as you can still see the marks on it from where it was worn by a horse. It requires no maintenance whatsoever, such as polishing, which could actually damage the plating. In addition, tradition says that polishing a horseshoe can bring bad luck anyway.
My horseshoe arrived on a cushion in a nice gift box. Included in my gift box was also a card ensuring me a lifelong good luck guarantee, a 'Good Luck' booklet, matching horseshoe nails, and a personalized greeting card. It even has a serial number. The 'Good Luck' booklet is packed full of interesting information and stories about how horseshoes have brought good luck for centuries. For instance, did you know that to be effective, the horseshoe must have been used. A new horseshoe will bring you no luck whatsoever. Also I found it very interesting to know that when you find a horseshoe you are supposed to pick it up with your right hand, spit on it, say a wish, and throw it over your left shoulder. You are supposed to leave it where it falls and never look back.
When I showed this horseshoe to a friend/coworker who is in the horse business, she got very excited about it and was sure it was a shoe that had come off a show horse but we'll never know for sure so it would be fun if there was a way to provide a little background information about what kind of horse actually wore the shoe and where it was from.
I believe a 'Good Luck' Horseshoe would be the perfect gift for many occasions such as for a wedding, anniversary, birthday, graduation, new house, new job, or new baby. As if it wasn't unique enough, it can be made that much more special by adding some personalizing such as a name(s), date, etc. It's something that will last a lifetime. The 'Good Luck' Horseshoe comes in several different colors. As for me, I can't tell you whether or not my new horseshoe has brought me any good luck yet as only time will tell but I'll be sure to let you know if and when it does.
